It’s sparkling wine with a stiff upper lip. And it says sorry. A lot.
It’s hardly surprising that as a nation of avid wine drinkers we decided to have a go at making the stuff ourselves. England is now home to over 450 vineyards, many of which you can actually visit yourself (minibreak, anyone? You’re welcome…).
English Wine Week (27th May – 2nd June) is all about raising awareness of our homemade tipple and supporting local winemakers. And for good reason! – English wine is pretty darn delicious, so we wanted to help spread the word too.
With the help of our pals over at Naked Wines, English winemakers Sam Linter and Ian Kellet were able to have a crack at growing grapes themselves. Here’s what they came up with:
Bolney Estate Cuvée Rose 2014 Angel price – £21.99
Not just any old sparkling rosé – this deliciously pink fizz has won awards for its delicate red berry and vanilla cream flavours. Highly quaffable.
Old Winchester Hill Oeil de Perdrix NV Angel price – £21.99
Another gorgeously berry-y pink sparkler, the mix of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes gives it a lovely, delicate balance.
Old Winchester Hill Blanc de Blancs NV Angel price – £21.99
Pale and interesting: this crisp sparkling white has incredible zingy flavours and aromas with a hint of sourdough. So hipster.
(As it’s delish, we thought we’d show you this still wine too.) If you’re partial to a glass of Sauvy-B or two (or five), you’ll love this fresh and fruity Bacchus.
